Our work is shaped by three festival pillars:

Create

This pillar centres creative expression. We support artists — especially those with lived experience of displacement—to share their work, collaborate, and inspire. From exhibitions to performances and community workshops, we celebrate the power of creativity to spark new ways of seeing, imagining, and belonging.

Connect

We create moments where people meet across differences. Whether it’s through shared meals, music, football, storytelling, or community walks, Connect invites people to experience and celebrate the richness of different cultures. These events are led by many—organisations, communities, individuals—and take place in all kinds of spaces, from theatres to classrooms, kitchens to public gardens.

Cultivate

We grow understanding. Through art, dialogue, and creative education, we aim to shift awareness, build knowledge, and foster compassion. This pillar invites reflection and inspires change—on an individual and collective level. Together, we explore why people are displaced, what they face, and how we can build more inclusive, resilient communities.

The festival calls for the development of the much-needed spaces for conversations around the human experience of displacement within Maltese communities. In addition to this, the Festival aims to curate experiences that invite people from different backgrounds to interact and nurture connections with each other.

Refugee Week Malta is built on collaboration—with artists, communities, and organisations. We’re also deeply grateful for the ongoing support and inspiration we receive from the UK Refugee Week team, whose experience and generosity help us grow each year. Together, we cultivate a more inclusive, creative, and caring Malta for everyone.
