RWM23: Compassion
In 2023, Refugee Week Malta committed to putting Compassion into Action — not just as a passive emotion, but as something we can train, like a muscle — something that grows when we stretch our capacity to understand and care.
Inspired by voices like Dima Mekdad and Yusuf Baluch, we examined the idea of selective compassion, and asked what it means to act with equity, even when it's difficult.

What We Explored
We explored what it means to build a culture of compassion in everyday life — through dialogue, collaboration, and shared humanity.
We asked: How do we move from empathy to action? How do we open space for disagreement while still choosing care? How do we turn conflict into compassion?
Festival Summary
What We Found
We discovered that compassion begins with presence: with listening, speaking honestly, and remaining open to change. As Pope Francis reminded us during his visit to Malta, it is only “by conducting ourselves with kindness and humanity” that we can keep the ship of civilization afloat.
